Tata Motors To Sack 3,000 Temporary Staff At Pune Unit

Tata Motors, India's largest commercial vehicle maker, said it would dismiss around 3,000 temporary staff at its Pune factory, following its decision a week ago to cut production and dismiss a similar number of temporary workers at its Jamshedpur unit, reports media.

The Pune plant will resume operations from Friday after it was closed from November 21.

Tata Motors has resorted to such limited-period block closures at its commercial vehicles facilities at Jamshedpur (from November 6-8 and from November 25-59), Lucknow (November 10-15) and Pune from November 21 to 26, in order to match production with demand and avoid unnecessary build-up of inventory in the company or with the company's dealers, the spokesman reportedly said.
